What is a Dark Ambient podcast…

Actually a better question is what is the definition of ambient music itself? With all of the different kinds of music calling itself Ambient, that term seems to encompass many different genres and sub-genres. There is ambient as new age, hopeful and almost spiritual, sometimes with mysterious and mystical healing qualities associated with it. Another example would be the pulsating, tribal sounding ambient, with the main focus on drums, percussion, ethnic indigenous instruments and samples. Ambient also can include the sparse use of vocals and samples form speeches and films, sounds of nature, swirling reverb/echo drenched guitar lines etc. I am hoping that this podcast will fall somewhere in between all of that. What I want to create is an ever changing body of ambient soundscapes that should give the listener a moment of being, an almost other worldly presence, as if the music and listener together has no weight, just floating along, with no boundaries to hold it captive. One of my favorite descriptions of ambient music is that it is film music, without a film, or music to an imaginary film, so that the listener has to picture the music for themselves, and this way every listening experience is different and unique. To me that is ambient.
