Hey all…I’m going to go on a rant and adult words will be used ….

This will be on my Podcast page on Facebook and on my website and twitter, so if yo see this twice, I apologize in advance…

It really takes a lot to piss me off. I’m probably one of the most laid back human beings walking the face of the earth, maybe even too laid back to a fault, where things that should get under my skin, don’t…today was different.

The company that I use to host the podcasts is a company called Mevio. They used to be called Podshow, way back when I first started doing this in 2006. They were owned by Adam Curry, the VJ from MTV in the 80’s. There have been a lot of changes with Mevio in the last few years. Not a lot of them good, but I never had a problem with my shows, so I didn’t really pay much attention to them, but always kept an eye on the Mevio Producers Newsgroup, just to see what problems other people were having. Now just so you know, the Mevio service is free, they did not charge for the hosting, which is why I’m sure they had a huge amount of podcasters. Over the weekend different Podcasters were complaining that the feeds for their podcasts had just disappeared. Then more people started complaining, that besides their podcast feeds were gone, that the page for their shows at Mevio were gone. And no one from Mevio returned any E-mails. Not a good sign. So i went to check my feeds and pages at Mevio. The Dark Ambient and the Deep Energy VIDEO shows were both gone. I’ve had the Dark Ambient podcast for over 5 years and without warning they just shut it down. I am stunned and so fucking pissed, you cannot believe it. There were no emails, no notice, not a blessed f’in thing to let us know. My guess is that they got rid of all of the podcasts with low download numbers, since the Deep Energy AUDIO podcast is still alive. As of this evening, you can still go into iTunes and download all of the old shows, which I would suggest you do. It is probably going to be cost prohibitive for me move all of the old shows to a new hosting service ( if i moved all of the old shows to Libsyn it would cost me around .05 mb so probably around 500.00 give or take). They have probably shut off close to 90% of their shows…

So what does it all mean. To go to a new hosting company will cost money, so I’m checking out my options to make sure I pick the best one. It will probably be the people who made my app Libsyn. I was really happy when I wasn’t hawking ads on the podcasts, (I always thought asking people to pay for say Audible.com AND buy my downloads was a bit much, but that was part of Mevio platform for awhile).

If you own the app, I don’t know what is going to happen. I have some questions into Libsyn, but my heart and head tells me that the old episodes are eventually just going to be lost and I’ll have to start form scratch. I am so fucking mad…that is not how you run a business…

Hope everyone is fine…

First up ..I’m working on the new ‘Deep Energy 4 CD’ ..I’ve been having a massive case of writers block, so I decided to do something different…..and

I have started a new Podcast and YouTube channel. ‘Deep Energy Videos’ are videos with images of either Space or images of landscapes etc… joined with my music. As of this moment there are 6 videos available to watch at Youtube or download through Mevio or iTunes. With many more on the way. And that’s where all of you come in. I’m looking for Photographers and Digital artists to work with, to put out some amazing videos. There is an intro and outro on each video, where you will receive credit for your work. The podcast already has over 2000 downloads in just a few days, so it is shaping up to do very well….so just send me an e-mail at jimbutlermusic@gmail.com if you would like to have your images considered for a future podcast.

Hi Everyone,
Hope you all have had a good winter so far ..It’s cold in New Hampshire, USA although today was the warmest day in awhile, probably mid 30′s F. Just days ago, it was -10 F with a nasty windchill, plus it seems like it has snowed  everyday for a month …ok enough bitching from me…Let’s get to fun stuff…

A new podcast is up..’Life Circle’ the link is on the right. It’s sort of an interesting podcast, there are spaces of almost no sound , which not done on purpose, but sort of just happens organically, when I paste all of the pieces together. It’s a nice easy listen…I hope you like it.

I’m trying to broaden my horizons a bit, so I’ve been working on shorter pieces of music lately. I’m going to be included on 3 compilations coming up very soon….

The first is a compilation to benefit survivors of the Chernobyl accident in what was Russia.   It’s titled ‘Remember Chernobyl’ All money collected for the sale of the record ( the artists have donated their work)  will be going to NGO Chernobyl Children International. Which helps treat children suffering from radiation poisoning. The second one is a release called Bioacoustic being released by Magnetic Sound Collective. I will include a link to their website. The track I submitted is titled ‘the Sounds Within‘, very mellow new age track….So please give it a listen if you can….I’ll have links to where you can purchase it once it is available.The third is a REMIX that I did …Of a Track by Dave Seidel…It’s a Drone/Noise track and i went to town on it.. It was a lot of fun..I’ll update on when that will be out.

As for my own music, I’m hoping (fingers crossed) to have 3 full length non-podcast release out. The first is going to be the second Drone release. Tentatively titled ‘DRONE 2: Day of the Drone’..hmmmm  Drone music really is challenging, at least for me. It’s like trying to make noise melodic, and that is a lot of fun to me. So I can’t wait to start on that…

Second will be a full length Christmas/Holiday CD.  Last year I took a bunch of Xmas MIDI files and sort of ‘Ambientized ‘them and made a CD that i gave to family and friends, and it was a download if you followed me on Facebook or subscribed to my newsletter. everyone that heard it, seemed to like it, so I’m going to go back to the drawing board and try that again, but put a lot more time into it and really make it special and unique. Although looking at the time line of what i need to do musically this year, I’ll have to start this in July to have Downloads AND physical CD’s available by Nov/Dec.

And finally I’d like to do a  full length ambient/chill type of record. Something like Stars of the Lid/Boards of Canada/Aphex Twin. This will really take me out of my element, but that’s the challenge, at least to me, is to always push myself musically, trying new things, sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t….but I won’t know unless I give it  a shot…

Hi Everyone and Happy Thanksgiving if you are in the states

The new Deep Energy podcast is up and ready for download. It is titled ‘Ambient Piano # 1 w/ Nature Sounds’. Pretty self explanatory as to the content. I combined, sounds of the Ocean, Rain, Thunder, Birds etc… to make something pretty unique. I hope you enjoy it.

In a couple of days i’ll have a full 90 minute version available through www.jimbutler.bandcamp.com that will also include a 90 minute version of just the nature sounds and a 90 minute version of just the piano with out the nature sounds.A 70 minute version of the podcast will be available through Amazon in a few weeks also…

A new Dark Ambient podcast will be up in a week or so….and I hope to get one more podcast Deep Energy Podcast up before the end of the year.
